The very best from the mouths of those in the know.

2010 Boycott

The current teams are not happy…

  • “The same rules for all teams, stability of regulations, the continuity of the FOTA’s endeavours to methodically and progressively reduce costs, and governance of Formula 1 are the priorities for the future.” Ferrari Statement
  • “There is frustration that FOTA’s constructive proposals, including major cost saving measures to be adopted progressively between 2009 and 2012, which were carefully constructed by FOTA members, have been completely ignored without any form of consultation by the FIA with the teams.” Renault Statement
  • “If the proposed rules for 2010 remain unchanged, we will not enter next year’s championship. And I guess that won’t do the works teams either. So possibly only two or maybe three of the existing teams will enter the championship.” Dietrich Mateschitz, Red Bull

New Teams

However, there are plenty lining up to take their place…

  • “The cap may be dropped altogether. The point is that there is not much time for the project to get on to the 2010 grid and we have to take some risks in order to maximise time for preparation.” Nino Judge, Litespeed
  • “The Lola Group believes that the WMSC decisions relating to cost-capping and the provision of revised technical regulations to facilitate the entry of new teams into Formula 1 should be embraced. This is not only prudent considering the backdrop of global economics but also taking into account the need for new teams to be able to compete credibly against long established entrants.” Lola Statement
  • “We are confident that the FIA / FOTA will find a swift compromise, which is good for F1 and that allows new teams, like ours, to enter. As an innovative, cost-efficient and engineering based organisation, the budget cap initiatives fit with the very ethos of Litespeed GP, which is why now is the right time for us to make this announcement.” Nino Judge, Litespeed

Looking Ahead

The racing is still happening, by the way…

  • “Our focus now is very clearly to close the gap to the Brawns – and Barcelona has shown that we have done that – and we still have a lot more development potential open to us. The car is performing very well, the team is performing exceptionally well, and we are going in the right direction.” Christian Horner
  • “Races have to be raced, you cannot predict or try to say what will happen. You can be more or less optimistic, but once you get in the car on Friday and Saturday you can say in a way, and we knew here on Friday that we were not competitive.” Jarno Trulli
  • “I think Jenson’s got a great chance, a great shot at it so I wish him all the best… I want to win the world championship, we are a long way behind in points. I’ve never been as far behind or ahead in points before.” Lewis Hamilton
