Absorbing

Mike Gascoyne studies last year’s Force India chassis when he worked for the team. He has since moved on to front the new Lotus project, who have come under fire for possibly using Force India’s intellectual property. This will be a tough battle to fight on both sides, but it wouldn’t be the first time in F1.

The stories are probably the result of some bad blood between Gascoyne and Force India over their split last year. Gascoyne spent 2008 at odds with former team principal Colin Kolles over the question of how money was being spent and whether or not team boss Vijay Mallya had a realistic view of how the team was developing. After he was dumped by the team he threatened legal action, claiming $2.5m in salary and a percentage of money he would have earned in 2010 and 2011 if he had taken up his option to stay with the team. It is not clear whether this was ever paid. (end)
