Fernando Alonso to leave McLaren

Posted by on

Welcome to F1Minute, I’m Christine from Sidepodcast, and these are your top headlines for today, 2nd November 2007.

Actually there is only one headline today. A small tidbit from BMW that Heidfeld is determined to win the title next year is completely dwarfed by McLaren’s announcement that Fernando Alonso will be leaving the team. After the year they have been through, everyone involved is in mutual agreement that Alonso’s three year contract should come to an end early.

Alonso has praised the team and said he dreamt of working for them as a boy, is glad that he did, and puts it down to not feeling at home, rather than any favouritism within the team. On McLaren’s behalf, Ron Dennis wished Fernando well, and said the team will now be focusing on 2008.

There will be no announcement for Lewis Hamilton’s new partner until next year, but of course the speculation is now wild as to where Alonso will be headed. Renault and Red Bull are apparently the favourites at the moment, but it really is too early to say.

That’s the one and only headline for today, have a great weekend and please join me on Monday for another F1Minute.
