BMW choose no KERS for Spain

Welcome to F1Minute for the 5th May 2009.

Some updates on what to expect from BMW at the Spanish Grand Prix this weekend – they have confirmed that they won’t be running KERS and they won’t have their double decker diffuser ready either.

Regarding KERS, Mario Theissen said that adding in new aero parts won’t work when they have the device running, but they should be able to put it back in for Turkey in about a month’s time. Theissen has rubbished claims that teams are shying away from the technology, saying that that it is a positive step forward, but it doesn’t work at every track depending on the weight configuration required. The team are hoping to have their new diffuser ready for the next race at Monaco and have an interim one for this weekend.

Elsewhere, the Donington Park plans have been given a month’s extension by the local council, meaning organiser Simon Gillett has until the end of June to get some important paperwork sorted… and try and find some cash.

That’s it for today, please join me next time for another F1Minute.
