Welcome to F1Minute for the 7th June 2008.

Hamilton scored an unbeatable pole position today, posting a time over half a second faster than nearest rival Kubica. Hamilton led all three sessions, although the times were a lot slower than those we were expecting. The conditions were somewhat windy, but the real trouble lay in the track. The newly laid asphalt was breaking up and causing some serious problems when drivers went off the racing line. Casualties of today, for track reasons or otherwise, included Vettel who smashed his car in FP3, and it could not be fixed in time, Button who had a gearbox problem in the first session, and Webber, who crashed into the wall at the very end of Q2, having made it through to the final ten. Bourdais took part in qualifying, but after a crash in FP3, he faces a gearbox penalty on the grid.

Elsewhere today, catching up with the Bernie Ecclestone story from yesterday, where he upset the African FIA Council, he says he never said anything like that and is himself awaiting a letter from the Daily Mail on how his comments were taken out of context.
