Williams confirm split with Toyota engines

This is F1Minute and it’s the 14th October 2009.

It’s all about Williams today as the team confirmed they will split from engine suppliers Toyota at the end of the year. This has been the rumour for a while, and Frank Williams says: “Toyota has been a very decent partner who have always respected our independence and provided us with a first-rate technical product.” A decent partner isn’t exactly a compliment is it? Either way, Williams say they will announce their new supplier soon. Toyota’s exit also throws Kazuki Nakajima’s seat at Williams into doubt.

Meanwhile, Barrichello has said that he has not signed with Williams yet, despite the fact that there is a lot of speculation that an announcement is coming soon. He has said that there are talks with the team ongoing but nothing has been signed yet. He adds: “Today I feel very honoured that there are teams trying, that there are teams I’m talking to and that my situation is a lot better than for some time.”

That’s all for now, I’ll be back tomorrow with another F1Minute.
