FIA to tighten engine regulations

Today is the 23rd February 2009, and this is F1Minute.
The new engine regulations have already caused a bit of confusion, but gradually, things are becoming clearer. Autosport is today reporting that the FIA are about to refine the rules even further, with the added limit of having to use the same engine for all of Saturday and Sunday, meaning third practice, qualifying and the race. The rules as they stand are fairly open, with just the limit of eight engines throughout the season without penalty. That looks as though it will be tightened up, and Pat Symonds from Renault says it’s a good thing. He believes the openness at the moment would soon degenerate, so common sense needs to be applied.
Elsewhere, two quick snippets: the 2007 Ferrari spy scandal has finally come to an end, with the Italian courts dropping the charges against McLaren in favour of some pretty hefty fines. And, Force India have confirmed they will be launching the VJM02 in Jerez on Sunday 1st March, ahead of the test there.
That’s it for today, I’ll be back tomorrow with another F1Minute.
