Welcome to F1Minute for the 6th May 2011.
Two Free Practice sessions have been completed in Turkey today, with Fernando Alonso leading the first and Jenson Button topping the second.
FP1 was wet, with a lot of drivers waiting for the opportune moment before attempting a lap. Lewis Hamilton didn’t set a time at all, whilst Button only tested out a few tentative laps. Sebastian Vettel was the big talking point, though, as the Red Bull driver sat most of the session out. He completed just four laps before crashing into a wall, bringing out a red flag for ten minutes. The car was returned to the pit lane on the back of a truck, and Vettel was not able to participate in FP2.
The second practice session was a little damp but the rain had stopped and things soon dried out. Alonso suffered hydraulic problems and both Ferrari drivers seemed to struggle to control the car. Pastor Maldonado crashed his Williams into the barrier, bringing his day to a close. With Mark Webber running his Red Bull in the midfield, and no Vettel, the battle for the lead was between McLaren and Mercedes. Will that continue through the weekend?
