The F1 world is still slightly shaken by the penalty handed to Romain Grosjean at last weekend’s race in Belgium, but opinion remains firmly divided. Kamui Kobayashi saw his front row grid slot wasted after getting tangled up in the first corner clash at Spa, and he has hit out at Grosjean’s penalty, suggesting it is not enough. He’s said: “I expected more than one race. He has had seven crashes in twelve races. It’s more than half. That’s too much.”

He also pointed out that three of those accidents were with him, and it is not fair on other drivers to be taken out at the start of the race, saying: “Why do these guys want to finish in turn one or take so much risk in the beginning?”

Meanwhile, FIA steward Derek Warwick has spoken to Autosport on a similar subject, hinting that this penalty could just be the start. He said: “I think that all drivers have to realise that they are not beyond being disqualified for one, two, three or four races. If something happens that is considered dangerous then I think the stewards should act like they did at Spa, where they got it absolutely spot on.”
