For 2013, we could see a new engine supplier enter Formula One with the announcement that P.U.R.E, headed up by Craig Pollock, are ready to get to work on the new regulations. First things first, then, Pollock used to be team principal at BAR before they became Honda, so he has plenty of experience in F1. For the 2013 season, the regulations stipulate 1.6 litre four-cylinder turbo engines, and PURE are prepared to source the goods at a relatively cheap price. A lot of the savings will come from outsourcing development to existing companies.
Pollock says: “The 2013 F1 power train regulation changes offer PURE an immediate platform to field test and validate future technologies for implementation in other industries... we are a very tight team, and being tight means that our costs are an awful lot lower - and that means we should be able to carry over this cost reduction to teams and give them a cost-effective power train.”
