In what was a rather predictable session, Sebastian Vettel secured pole position for the Indian Grand Prix tomorrow, with teammate Mark Webber set to line up alongside him. The split between the two was just four hundredths of a second though, with Lewis Hamilton a further two tenths off the pace.

Jean-Éric Vergne raised no eyebrows by failing to make it out of Q1, although Vitaly Petrov managed to outqualify teammate Heikki Kovalainen. All were well inside the 107% cutoff time.

In the second session, there was a close battle to get through to the top ten - Romain Grosjean just missed out and qualifying 11th, with Nico Hülkenberg behind him. Michael Schumacher also missed out on the third and final session, whereas teammate Nico Rosberg got through. Nico did not set a time in Q3, however, and starts the race from tenth position.

Fernando Alonso pipped teammate Felipe Massa to fifth place by about half a second, whilst Sergio Pérez must have been feeling a lot better, he qualified in eighth.
