This is F1Minute - Sauber confirm return of aerodynamicist Willem Toet.
Sauber have announced that former head of aerodynamics Willem Toet will be returning to the team after leaving in 2009 when BMW took over. The current head, Seamus Mullarkey, will be moving to a new position, and Toet will be back in mid-November. In between his two stints at Sauber, Toet has been working as managing director at RML Group, a motorsport engineering company in the UK.
Meanwhile, Sauber have spoken out about their poor performance in Korea, and have found out where the problems came from. James Key, technical director of the team, said: “We analysed the data carefully and came to the conclusion that we underestimated the limitation on the front axle and front tyres. As a result we suffered from too much understeer, which resulted in overloading the front tyres.”
Looking ahead to the Indian race, Key has evaluated what could happen with the tyres - that it depends on temperatures, and that the soft compound may struggle more than the harder - but, as he points out, “you never really know until you’re there.”
