2010 Preview

From the F1 Digest 2010 Season Preview:

Glock was another casualty of Toyota’s decision to leave Formula 1, and whilst Trulli is safe over at the new Lotus team, Glock has been snapped up by the new Virgin team. Of the two teams, Virgin seemed to have the most momentum, with a fancy website, some excellent video of the car and the shakedown. Then testing happened, and it’s been downhill ever since. Glock has only managed a couple of laps in Jerez so far this year, through no fault of his own. It’s not a great way to get a handle on the car. Still, the German will be keen to get the car up to scratch to try and pick up as many points as possible.

Last year, he scored his first F1 podium, finishing third in Malaysia. Third is great, of course, but that race was a bit of a mess by the end, and we really need to see Timo make some headway without the weather intervening. For the last two years at Toyota, he has finished tenth in the championship, and it’s time for him to break through into the top. Whether he’ll be able to do that with Virgin, particularly in their first year, is probably doubtful, but if it all goes wrong, Glock has experience of being in a backmarker team. His first taste of an F1 race came through replacing Giorgio Pantano for Jordan in 2004. Having said that, he picked up two points on his debut, in a Jordan, so he’s definitely one to watch.
